Ik geloof dat dit de vierde keer is dat ik Linux een kans heb gegeven op mijn computer. Alle voorgaande keren was ik snel weer terug in Windows omdat mijn (win)modem het nooit echt goed wou doen.
Dit keer heb ik Mandrake 9.0 van Laurens geleend. Het installeren ging bedriegelijk eenvoudig, de eerste keer gingen er dan ook een aantal dingen mis (gebruiker zonder wachtwoord toevoegen is geen slim idee, printer automatisch detecteren terwijl hij nog niet in ready toestand was ging mis, aangemaakte root partitie wat aan de kleine kant, etc.) maar de tweede keer lijkt soepel te zijn verlopen.
Zo soepel dat het installeren van de Conexant Linux driver voor mijn modem in een keer vlot verliep en toen ook de provider instellingen via het Mandrake control panel waren ingesteld, kon ik zomaar naar de Gouden Emmer!

Ik ben overnieuw begonnen om drie redenen:
- Ik had veel te veel overbodige packages.
- Mijn root partitie was te klein.
- Die gebruiker zonder wachtwoord had het user-management flink in de war gestuurd (of mijn pogingen hem te verwijderen).
Uhm, Jasper... bij mijn weten zijn RedHat en SuSe Linux distributies en geen browsers... Ik moet trouwens zeggen dat de snelheid van Linux mij alles meevalt, alles behalve het verticaal verslepen van raampjes (om de een of andere reden gaat dat schokkerig terwijl horizontaal wél erg soepel gaat). |

Wat heeft dat tentamen nou met Linux te maken? Maar goed, een nieuwe thread beginnen om zoiets te melden is het misschien ook weer niet waard...
Wat betreft het verslepen van raampjes in Linux, ik gebruik KDE en ik heb het volgende geconstateerd. Wanneer je aan de titelbalk sleept gaat horizontaal soepel en verticaal schokkerig. Maar gebruik je Alt en pak je het raampje in het midden beet (op een kalo plek waar geen widget zit is het beste) dan kun je het raampje ineens wel overal soepel heenslepen! Pak je het raampje op die manier bij een kort stukje tekst beet dat gaat hij juist altijd schokkerig! Ik vind het maar vreemd.
Mozilla is inderdaad een prettige browser, dat hij langzaam gaat zal wel aan je systeem liggen Jasper :-P. Ik gebruik hem, net als Laurens, ook al standaard in WinXP. |

Ik gebruik hem, net als Laurens, ook al standaard in WinXP.
Ik gebruik geen WinXP meer, en als ik het wel gebruik, dan gebruik ik geen Mozilla, want die doet het niet meer... Sterker nog mijn hele XP installatie is wederom weer eens fucked up. |

| Ik doe al 337 dagen (en nachten) met dezelfde xp installatie en het werkt nog steeds goed! Niet perfect, maar ja, alles wat ik tot nu toe geprobeerd heb met freebsd is voor mij een ramp geweest. Ik zie niet in dat Linux mij dan beter zal bevallen. Uiteraard ben ik zeer tevreden en heb ik erg te doen met al die mensen met goede pc's die alles verknallen door linux te draaien, oa omdat de meeste spelletjes en programma's (die allemaal natuurlijk gewoon te downloaden vallen) toch alleen maar onder windows draaien. |

Tja, GNU/Linux kan er niets aan doen dat alle GPL programma's gewoon onder elk ander OS de compileren zijn. Op deze manier zijn de `GNU/Linux-programma's' altijd een deelverzameling van de Windows programma's.

Hoe regelt Linux het lezen van die CD dan? Ik weet wel dat zodra ik in Linux mijn CD mapje wil openen en dat ding nog gechecked of gemount ofzo moet worden dat een mp3tje dat op dat moment wordt afgespeeld plotseling even stopt (oftewel, het hele systeem staat even stil op dat moment). Dat vind ik wel enorm slecht en dat is in WinXP een stuk beter.
Dat bij Georg was zeker een schone installatie van Win2000? Had hij wellicht toch beter voor WinXP kunnen kiezen. :-P |
