De belangrijkste wielerronde loopt al weer tegen zijn einde, en tot mijn verbazing moet ik op merken dat er hier op de gouden emmer weinig belangstelling voor deze boeiende sport is. Graag sluit ik mij bij Sascha aan om je welkom te heten als nieuw lid op DGE, Douwe! En ik ben wel zo brutaal om het niet eerst te vragen, maar gewoon te doen. Anders duurt het zo lang voordat je eerst weer toestemming krijgt om je welkom te heten, en in dat soort toestanden heb ik nu eenmaal geen zin.
Net als Sascha volg ik het wielrennen ook niet echt. Toch zal ik voor de aardigheid even proberen wat antwoorden te geven.
1) Michel Indurain, die een onverwachte keiharde comeback maakt en een team vormt met Mario Cipollini, onder de titel 'The Comeback Kids' (ze worden dan natuurlijk gesponsord door Bill Clinton)
2) Hmmmm.... De Giro... dat roept bij mij vaag associaties op met 'Gironingen' - waarom weet ik ook niet. Ik zou echt niet meer weten waar de Giro gehouden werd. Overigens was ik dat bewuste weekend niet in G(i)roningen, maar bij mijn ouders in Enschede, zodat ik niet heb kunnen kijken. Gelukkig had Scylla wel foto's gemaakt, zodat ik toch nog een leuke sfeerimpressie kreeg.
3) Ik niet. Mijn vader wel. Die volgt het altijd op de voet. Net zoals voetbal.
4) Ehm... nou ja, het onderwerp is zo saai als je het zelf maakt. Als je maar gewoon als een Kip zonder Kop (KzK - beruchte DGE-term) een eind weg lult, zoals ik nu doe, dan kun je het altijd gezellig maken.

| Ik had nooit zoveel belangstelling voor wielrennen maar ik kan met gepaste trots zeggen dat ik bij het vertrek van de Tour de France in Luxemburg was. Er was geen enkele wielrenner die ik van gezicht herkende, en slechts een enkele naam. Maar nu ik zelf ook enkele colletjes beklommen heb, vind ik het wel een stuk interessanter geworden. Verder heb ik het laatste half uur van de etappezege van Michel Boogerd gezien en dat vond ik spannend. Dus misschien dat ik het een boeiende sport begin te vinden. |

Nou, dat staat genoteerd Edwin. Ik zal proberen een stinkdier voor je te vinden.
Het gaat er natuurlijk niet om dat die auto's de hele tijd dezelfde rondjes rijden. Het gaat erom, dat een stuk of twintig personen ondersteund door zo'n tien teams onder grote druk een sportief gevecht aan gaan met grote snelheden. Dat doen ze in auto's uitgerust met de nieuwste technieken op auto-gebied, waar hele industriëen achter staan. Tijdens zo'n race probeert men onder grote spanning tot het uiterste te gaan wat de techniek en hun stress betreft, om zodoende topprestaties te leveren die hen niet alleen een race doen winnen, maar uiteindelijk ook een hoge plaats in het eindklassement en in de harten van miljoenen fans (en sponsoren) over de hele wereld doen veroveren. Om zo'n felbegeerde plaats te bereiken krijgt men 67 ronden de kans om zijn prestaties te tonen en alles uit de kast te halen. Gedurende anderhalf uur is dit het moment waar de coureurs, hun teams, hun ploegbazen en hun sponsoren naar hebben toegeleefd en dat komt dan in die anderhalf uur allemaal tot uitbarsting. Het echte hoogtepunt wordt bereikt na die anderhalf uur, wanneer één van de gelukkige coureurs als eerste de eindstreep bereikt. In die anderhalf uur zijn dan veelal drama's (zoals het uitvallen van auto's) of juist prachtige sport(ieve) momenten gebeurd.
Wat ik hier beschrijf is natuurlijk maar een topje van de ijsberg, en zal ook voor iedere fan op zich weer wat anders zijn. Hopelijk snappen jullie nu iets meer van de reden dat mensen wel 'uren' kunnen kijken naar auto's die de hele tijd dezelfde rondjes rijden.

Ik merk aan jullie reacties dat er hier weinig sportliefhebbers zijn. Dat is toch de bittere waarheid. Maar het zou heel goed kunnen dat dat niet voor sport in zijn algemeenheid geldt, maar alleen voor het wielrennen. Onder de leden zullen zich vast wel een aantal voetballiefhebbers bevinden (mag ik hopen). Daarom weten jullie ongetwijfeld dat het nieuwe seizoen al weer in aantocht is (Ikzelf begin maandaag weer met trainen bij S.C. Boornbergum). Wie is jullie favoriet voor het nieuwe seizoen en waarom?
