Geweldig Bjørn! Dan zijn we nu met z'n vieren. Wat er gedaan moet worden is het volgende: Er moet beslist worden over een locatie en een tijd voor het Pi-feest (14 maart dus). Georg kan overdag niet, dus moet het ergens 's avonds gebeuren. Laurens en Georg hebben verder al enkele mogelijke activiteiten genoemd waaraan deelgenomen kan worden, in de thread van "Morgen speciale dag!!".

De Zon is een gewone G2 ster, één van de 100 miljard of zelfs meer sterren in ons melkwegstelsel

De Zon is veruit het grootste object in het zonnestelsel. Ze bevat meer dan 99,8% van de totale massa van het zonnestelsel. Van de overblijvende massa bezit Jupiter meer dan alle andere samen.
De zon wordt verpersoonlijkt in verschillende mythologien: de Grieken noemden haar Helios en de Romeinen Sol.
De Zon bestaat, op dit ogenblik, uit ongeveer 75% waterstof en 25% helium in massa uitgedrukt ( volgens het aantal atomen : 92,1% waterstof en 7,8% helium); de rest zijn ("metalen") die slechts 0,1% van de massa vertegenwoordigen. De samenstelling wijzigt langzaam omdat de Zon in haar kern waterstof omzet in helium.
De buitenlaag van de Zon heeft een differentiële rotatie: aan de evenaar roteert het zonsoppervlak eens om de 25,4 dagen; in de buurt van de polen duurt een rotatie langer dan 36 dagen. Dit komt omdat de zon geen vast lichaam is zoals de aarde. Gelijkaardige effecten zien wij bij de gasplaneten. De kern van de zon daarentegen roteert zoals een vast lichaam.
De omstandigheden in de kern van de zon zijn extreem. De temperatuur is er 15 miljoen graden Celsius en de druk is er 250 miljard atmosfeer. Het gas in de kern van de zon is samengedrukt tot een dichtheid van 150 keer water.
De energie die de zon verlaat is (3,86e33 ergs per seconde of 386 miljard miljard megawatt). Deze energie wordt geproduceerd door kernfusie reacties. Elke seconde wordt ongeveer 700.000.000 ton waterstof omgezet in ongeveer 695.000.000 ton helium en 5.000.000 ton (=3.86e33 ergs) in energie onder de vorm van gammastraling. Terwijl de straling naar de oppervlakte stijgt wordt ze voortdurend geabsorbeerd en opnieuw uitgestraald aan steeds lagere temperaturen zodat aan de oppervlakte de straling voornamelijk bestaat uit zichtbaar licht. De laatste 20% van de af te leggen weg gebeurt meer door convectie dan door straling. Het duurt meer dan 50 miljoen jaar vooraleer een foton de oppervlakte bereikt.
Aan de oppervlakte van de zon, de fotosfeer genoemd, is de temperatuur ongeveer 5500 C. Zonnnevlekken zijn "koele" regio's, waar het slechts 4000 C is (de vlekken zien er alleen maar donker uit in vergelijking met de hetere en heldere omgeving). Zonnevlekken kunnen zeer groot worden, meer dan 50.000 km in diameter. Zonnevlekken zijn een ingewikkeld verschijnsel en de interactie met het magnetisch veld van de zon is nog niet volledig begrepen.
Een kleine laag gekend als de chromosfeer ligt boven de fotosfeer.
Boven de chromosfeer bevindt er zich een ijl gas de corona genoemd, dat miljoenen kilometers ver in de ruimte kan gaan. De corona is alleen zichtbaar tijdens zonsverduisteringen. De temperatuur in de corona kan tot 1.000.000 C bedragen.
Het magnetisch veld van de Zon is heel sterk (vergeleken met dat van de aarde) en erg gecompliceerd. De magnetosfeer van de zon (ook gekend als de heliosfeer) reikt tot ver buiten de baan van Pluto.
Naast warmte en licht, is er ook een stroom van klein geladen deeltjes (vooral electronen en protonen), zonnewind genaamd, die de zon verlaat en met een snelheid van 450 km/sec door het zonnestelsel raast. De zonnewind en de meer energierijke deeltjes uitgestoten door zonnevlammen kunnen dramatische gevolgen hebben op aarde gaande van storingen van bepaalde radiofrequenties tot het veroorzaken van de aurora borealis een prachtig verschijnsel dat ook wel Noorderlicht wordt genoemd.
Recente gegevens van het ruimtetuig Ulysses tonen aan dat de snelheid van de zonnewind aan de polen bijna dubbel zo groot is ( 750 kilometers per seconde) als op de plaatsen korter bij de evenaar. De samenstelling van de zonnewind is ook anders in de buurt van de polen. Verrassend is dan ook dat het magnetisch veld over heel de zon hetzelfde is.
Verdere studie van de zonnewind zal gebeuren door het recent gelanceerde Wind ruimtetuig en de SOHO die zich op een stabiel punt bevindt tussen de Aarde en de Zon.
De zonnewind is de medeoorzaak van het ontstaan van een stofstaart bij kometen en heeft ook een invloed op de baan die ruimtetuigen afleggen.
De energie die de zon verlaat is niet volledig constant. Ook het aantal zonnevlekken varieert. In de tweede helft van de 17de eeuw was er periode van lage zonneactiviteit, de Maunder Minimum genoemd. Het ging gepaard met een abnormale koude periode in het Noorden van Europa, soms de Kleine IJstijd genoemd. Sedert het ontstaan van het zonnestelsel is de zonneënergie met ongeveer 40% toegenomen.
De Zon is ongeveer 4,5 miljard jaar oud. Sedert haar geboorte heeft ze ongeveer de helft van haar waterstof in haar kern omgezet. Ze zal nog op een "vredevolle" manier gedurende 5 miljard jaar blijven stralen (alhoewel haar lichtsterkte in de loop van deze tijd ongeveer zal verdubbelen). Dan zal al de waterstof, de brandstof van de zon, opgebruikt zijn. Net zoals de andere sterren bij de eindfase van hun leven, zal ook de zon grote veranderingen ondergaan. Een van de gevolgen zal zijn dat de aarde totaal zal verwoest worden en dat er een planetaire nevel zal geboren worden. |

Ik vrees dat er eigenlijk weinig tot niets voorbereid dan wel gerealiseerd is. Aangezien driekwart van de PiCie tamelijk recent enigszins afgeknapt was op DGE, is het Pi-initiatief ook verwaterd. Ik weet niet of en zo ja, hoe snel, er nu nog iets gedaan kan worden. Plannen waren er al wel, maar dat waren slechts algemene dingen.

Tja, ze zouden die hele manier van tijd aanduiden eens moeten herzien. Hoewel ik natuurlijk best snap dat zonnejaren (seizoenen), maanmaanden (getijden) en aardedagen (dag/nacht) natuurlijk niet 1 2 drie goed te rijmen zijn.
Wat sterrendata betreft, die moeten maar gebruikt worden waar ze bedoelt zijn gebruikt te worden... ver weg in de ruimte waar het besef van aardse tijd helemaal weg is. |
