Nog wat meer info:
Een 10-delige realitysoap rondom de 19-jarige Volendamse zanger Jan Smit. In de soap is goed te zien hoe populair Jan inmiddels is in binnen- en buitenland. De tegenstellingen tussen zijn 'sterren'-leven en zijn 'doe maar gewoon, dan doe je gek genoeg' Volendamse leven met zijn familie en vrienden zijn oprecht en opzienbarend.
Jan verwierf grote bekendheid als Jantje Smit, toen hij met zijn nummer âIk zing dit lied voor jou alleenâ, van niets in één klap op nummer 1 kwam. Negen jaar later is Jan 200 dagen per jaar onderweg om op te treden in Nederland, Duitsland, Oostenrijk, Zwitserland, België en zelfs Italië en Spanje.
Zijn populariteit is erkend door middel van verscheidene onderscheidingen, waaronder de Nederlandse Exportprijs en diverse gouden en zelfs platina platen.
Ondanks zijn grote succes is Jan 'Gewoon Jan Smit' gebleven. Hij woont nog met zijn zussen bij zijn ouders thuis in Volendam. In het buitenland slaapt Jan in de mooiste hotels en krijgt hij het lekkerste eten voorgeschoteld, thuis moet hij gewoon boodschappen doen voor zijn moeder en de tafel dekken. In het buitenland staan de fans in rijen opgesteld om een handtekening van hem te bemachtigen, in Volendam helpt hij zijn vader met de verbouwing van hun huis.
De realitysoap van Jan laat zijn leven zien, zoals het is. Dat betekent dat Jan veel onderweg te zien zal zijn. Zo gaat hij onder andere twee dagen mee met de TROS- cruise, staat de dag erna weer in Duitsland, moet dan het volgende vliegtuig halen om een videoclip op te nemen in Zwitserland en staat, als hij weer terug is in Nederland, 's avonds nog 'even' in een megatent om te zingen voor duizenden uitzinnige Nederlandse fans.
